The Secret of Monkey Island est un jeu d'aventure graphique développé et publié par Lucasfilm Games en 1990. Premier titre de la série Monkey Island, il utilise le moteur SCUMM et propose un gameplay 2D en vue de côté, en pointer-cliquer, avec des dialogues spirituels et de l'humour.
Guybrush Threepwood arrive sur Melee Island, décidé à devenir pirate. Pour faire ses preuves, il doit réussir trois épreuves — duel à l'épée, chasse au trésor et vol — puis finir par sauver la gouverneure Elaine Marley du pirate mort-vivant LeChuck. Le jeu associe des énigmes ingénieuses à une écriture comique, ce qui en fait l'un des jeux d'aventure les plus aimés de son époque.
