Uncharted Waters ist ein Spiel, in dem die vom Spieler geführten Kapitäne nach großen Passatrouten und wichtigen Meeresströmungen suchen. Die Geschichte spielt im frühen 16. Jahrhundert. Es erschien im Mai 1990 für den PC-88.
Im ersten Spiel der Reihe übernimmt der Spieler die Rolle von Leon Franco, dem jungen, ehrgeizigen Sohn einer in Portugal in Not geratenen Adelsfamilie. Ziel des Spiels ist es, den früheren Ruhm der Familie wiederherzustellen und Leons Träume zu verwirklichen. Nur drei Nationen sind vertreten: Portugal, Spanien und das Osmanische Reich. Es gibt jedoch viele neutrale Häfen auf der ganzen Welt, in die der Spieler "investieren" kann, um sie so in Portugals Einflussbereich aufzunehmen. Dies sowie das Entdecken von Häfen und das Besiegen anderer Händler und Piraten in Seeschlachten steigern Leons Ruhm. Mit wachsendem Ruhm kann Leon Aufgaben für den König von Portugal erfüllen und höhere Adelstitel erlangen.
