「アース2140」は2140年を舞台にしています。過去の戦争によって地球の大部分は核の荒地となり、世界の人口のほとんどは地下都市に追いやられました。資源が次第に枯渇する中、地球の二大勢力であるユーラシア朝（ED）と統一文明国家（UCS）との間で緊張が高まります。UCSによるED基地への襲撃が、EDのメキシコ制圧の試みが失敗したことをきっかけに、両者の対立を全面戦争に引き起こします。UCSはスカンジナビア、グレートブリテン、フランス、イベリア半島に反撃します。
