「クェイク」は、id Softwareが開発し、GT Interactiveが発売した一人称シューティングゲームです。クェイクシリーズの最初の作品で、1996年にMS-DOS、Microsoft Windows、Linux向けに最初にリリースされ、1997年にはMac OSとセガサターン、1998年には任天堂64向けにリリースされました。プレイヤーは、さまざまな迷路のような中世の環境を探索しながら、武器の数々を使ってモンスターと戦わなければなりません。全体的な雰囲気は暗く陰鬱で、多くの石のテクスチャと錆びた大文字のフォントが特徴です。クェイクは、ゴシック小説やH・P・ラヴクラフトの作品から強い影響を受けています。
