「ディセントII」は1996年にパララックスソフトウェアによって開発され、インタープレイプロダクションズによってDOS向けに初めて発売された一人称シューティングゲームです。
これは「ディセント」シリーズの第2作目であり、前作の続編です。ゲームプレイの基本は同じで、プレイヤーは宇宙船を操縦し、パイロットの視点からエクストラソーラーの地下鉱山をナビゲートし、反応炉を見つけて破壊し、自らの自己破壊に巻き込まれないように脱出しなければなりません。一方で、プレイヤーを攻撃してくる感染したロボットと戦い、生き残る必要があります。他の一人称シューティングゲームとは異なり、本作の六自由度の操作方式により、プレイヤーは三次元空間のあらゆる方向に移動し回転することができます。
ストーリーは線形で、主にイントロダクションと結論のフルモーションビデオカットシーンで提供されます。「マテリアルディフェンダー」（声：ジョージ・デルホヨ）は、前作「ディセント」で太陽系のすべての鉱山を破壊した後、小惑星帯に停泊します。そこで、ポスト・テラ Mining Corporationの幹部であるドラビスから連絡を受け、契約の抜け穴を利用して新たな任務を受け入れなければ報酬を forfeitedし、法的措置を受けることを強要されます。マテリアルディフェンダーは承諾し、ドラビスが彼に単なる偵察任務であると説得しようとする中、彼の船にはプロトタイプのワープコアが装着されます。彼はその後、PTMCの太陽系外の深宇宙鉱山を掃除するために送られます。
