「ランズ・オブ・ロア：デスティニーの守護者」は1997年のアクションRPGであり、「ランド・オブ・ロア」シリーズの第2作目で、「ランド・オブ・ロア：混沌の王座」の続編です。前作のD&Dターン制スタイルから、よりアクション要素を重視したゲームプレイスタイルへの大幅な変更が行われました。
物語は、スコティアの息子ルーサーが、グラッドストーンの兵士たちに捕らえられ、ダークアーミーの一員であると非難されるところから始まります。ルーサーは、モンスターまたはトカゲに変身させられる呪いを受け、そのおかげで脱出します。ドララクルに導かれながら、前作の登場キャラクターであるドーンとバカッタに最初は追われ、後に助けられます。ルーサーは、多くの追跡者を避けながら呪いを解くための冒険に出なければなりません。
プレイヤーはルーサーを操作し、呪いを解くための旅をします。ランダムに形を変えることで、それぞれの利点（獣の時は高い力、トカゲの時は魔法能力が向上）を得たり、小さなスペースに入って隠れたエリアを発見する機会があります。最終的には、プレイヤーに自分の意志で形を変える力が授けられます。
