《波斯王子》（英语：Prince of Persia）是一横向卷轴动作游戏，最初是在1989年由Jordan Mechner（英语：Jordan Mechner）为Apple II平台开发的。这个游戏可当作电动游戏进步的标志之一，因为它使用了高品质的人物动画。Mechner使用一种称作rotoscoping的技巧，使用摄影机摄下他弟弟穿著白色衣服跑步及跳上跳下的画面，然后不断研究它，以确定所有游戏呈现的动作是正确的。另一个不寻常的是主角与敌人的战斗方式，他们使用剑互相格斗，而非当时常见的投射式武器。Mechner说当他开始设计这个游戏时，电影《法柜奇兵》的前十分钟是他绝大部分灵感的来源，凸显出游戏主角在危险环境中的特技式动作。
