『アウトウォーズ』は 1998 年のミリタリーSF・TPS。プレイヤーは CDF Marine Jump Corps の隊員として、複数の惑星・戦域で任務を遂行していく。物語は“ミッションの積み重ね”で進み、派手な演出よりも、作戦の連続と戦場の空気で世界観を立ち上げるタイプだ。
最大の特徴はロケット推進のパワードアーマーとジェットパックによる三次元機動。ライトスカウト／ミディアムコンバット／ヘビーアサルト／ヘビードレッドノートの装甲を選び、任務ごとに武器・装備を組み替えて出撃する。進行で装備が解放され、滑空を伸ばすウイング装備のような“空中での選択肢”も増える。さらに少数のAI分隊に指示を出せるため、単なる撃ち合いだけでなく、簡易的な連携を作って前進する面白さがある。対戦は最大8人で、FFAやチーム戦、CTFなど複数ルールに対応。
