『アーミーメン2』は、プラスチック兵士たちの戦争を本気の軍事作戦のように描くシリーズらしさを保ちながら、舞台のスケールと発想を大きく広げた作品です。プレイヤーは再びグリーン軍の Sarge を中心に戦いへ身を投じますが、今回は戦場が単なる“おもちゃの世界”に留まらず、キッチン、ベッドルーム、庭、ガレージといった現実世界の空間へも及びます。人間の暮らしの中では何でもない物や場所が、小さな兵士の視点では巨大な要塞や危険地帯に見えるため、そのスケール差そのものが作品の大きな魅力になっています。
プレイ感はリアルタイムタクティクス寄りで、前線を少しずつ押し上げながら任務を達成していく構成です。ただ撃ち合うだけでなく、どこを通るか、どこで踏みとどまるか、どの地形を利用するかがはっきり効いてくるため、見た目以上に“戦場を読む”面白さがあります。シリーズの中でも、この作品はプラスチック世界と現実世界をつなぐポータルの存在をはっきり打ち出した点で重要で、その後の展開の土台になった一本としてよく語られます。
