『オーバードライビン IV（Need for Speed: High Stakes）』 は 1999年発売のシリーズ第4作。北米名 High Stakes／欧州名 Road Challenge。本作は“リスクとリアリティ”を柱に、ダメージ表現が外観だけでなく性能にも影響し、修理費がキャリアの資金計画に直結するのが特徴。ゲームモードは Single / Tournament / Knockout / Hot Pursuit / High Stakes を用意。High Stakes（ピンクスリップ） は、勝者が敗者のマシンを総取りする緊張感の高いデュエル。さらに Hot Pursuit は警察として追う側でのプレイも可能。PC 版では EA Seattle により描画が強化され、ポリゴン増強・夜間コクピット照明、さらに 『NFS3』の追加コース収録や公式配布の追加車種などの拡張が行われた。
