本作は『ロードス島戦記〜灰色の魔女〜』の続編です。物語は小説の第2巻から第7巻を基にしていますが、小ニスは登場せず、その役割はディードリットが担っています。最終任務には小説にはない「降臨の邪神カディスとの戦い」が新たに追加されました。NPCは最大で2人までパーティーに参加できるようになりました。戦闘システムは、野外でも戦術戦闘が使用できるように改良され、操作性は『I』に比べて大幅に向上しています。さらに、「高速戦闘」オプションが追加され、自動戦闘を迅速に行うことができますが、生命値（LP）と魔法値（MP）を大幅に消費し、経験値は10％しか得られません。武器の能力も調整され、騎馬突撃などの新たなデザインが追加されました。キャラクターは「自由騎士」などの称号も獲得できます。
前作『ロードス島戦記～灰色の魔女～』の作成したキャラクターデータを読み込むことができますが、プレイヤーキャラクターとして使用することはできず、特定のイベントでこれらのキャラクターがNPCのパーティーになり、撃破されます。Windows 95版では、物語の内容がさらに小説に近づけられ、ウッドカラとレリアのイベントが追加されました。
