《玩具兵大戰：沙展英雄》把系列原本就很有辨識度的“塑膠兵戰爭”題材，進一步做成了一款更有角色魅力與闖關感的第三人稱動作射擊。你不再只是從高處俯瞰整片戰場，而是更貼近 Sarge 本人去經歷一場一場任務，從綠軍的危急處境一路打到更寬廣、更誇張的戰場空間。作品最迷人的地方，在於它非常懂得利用比例差帶來的想像力：對人類來說再普通不過的家居環境，到了塑膠兵的視角裡，全都像巨型戰區一樣充滿壓迫感。
它整體節奏比系列前作更直接，也更重視單關的設計與人物存在感。你會在 3D 場景中持續推進，靠武器、移動與地形判斷去打開局面，過程中既有玩具戰爭特有的荒謬趣味，也有很明確的主機動作遊戲節奏。這一作後來之所以常被視為系列代表作之一，很大一部分原因就在於它把世界觀、角色與關卡風格都做得更完整，讓《Army Men》從“玩具兵題材”真正長成了一個有自己招牌角色的系列。
