Army Men: World War (2000)
The 3DO Company

Play

Army Men: World War takes the series’ plastic-soldier premise and pushes it toward a more openly war-film-inspired style. The miniature battlefield fantasy is still there, but this time it is framed through beaches, jungles, countryside fronts, and war-torn cities that evoke a broader World War atmosphere, making the game feel less like a backyard skirmish and more like a toy-sized version of a full campaign. That tonal shift is what gives it its identity: the absurdity of tiny green soldiers fighting a “real” world war, played straight enough to feel surprisingly dramatic.
Across its 16 missions, the game leans harder into battlefield momentum and support options than some of the earlier entries. Beyond standard firearms, it brings in heavier weapons such as flamethrowers and bazookas, while vehicles like tanks, jeeps, and boats help turn stalled pushes into breakthroughs; Chinese game database material also notes support options such as air strikes, reconnaissance, and paratrooper drops. It is also one of the more unusual Army Men releases because its two main versions diverge: on Windows it plays as real-time tactics, while on PlayStation it shifts into a third-person shooter.
