Vyruz: Destruction of the Untel Empire (2001)
Chili Con Valley

Vyruz: Destruction of the Untel Empire combines isometric vehicle combat with a science-fiction setting built around corporate control and artificial intelligence. In the year 2030, the Untel corporation has extended its influence across the world through a powerful central processor and the global Giganet network. Police, military forces, and everyday society operate beneath its reach. You play Jack Kelkinn, a rebel taking the fight directly to the system in the heavily armed Vyruz AM-030. Designed before the network established its dominance, this prototype remains beyond the processor’s control.
The campaign takes you inside Untel’s headquarters in Megatown City, a complex of three towers containing multiple floors to fight through and explore. Progress involves more than destroying everything immediately in front of you. Corridors, automatic gates, and elevators divide the facilities into spaces that must be searched and understood. Keys and access codes open the way through certain obstacles, making navigation an important companion to combat. Each floor becomes both a battlefield and a route-finding challenge as you work toward the machinery directing the empire.
An isometric viewpoint keeps your assault vehicle, surrounding architecture, and nearby enemies visible together. The AM-030 moves with the feel of a hovering combat craft, requiring attention to positioning as well as firepower. Its arsenal ranges from machine guns to rockets, mines, grenades, lasers, and a flamethrower, combining familiar weapons with more extravagant futuristic equipment. Changing weapons gives encounters variety, but ammunition remains a concern: powerful attacks are only useful while you can keep them supplied.
Destruction and exploration feed into the same resource loop. Crates and other breakable objects can provide ammunition, energy, or money, encouraging you to investigate your surroundings rather than simply rush toward the exit. Cash also has an unusual practical role. Saving progress requires visiting designated backup terminals and spending in-game funds, while consulting the area map carries a cost of its own. Advancing farther, searching for additional supplies, and securing your existing progress therefore become competing priorities.
Industrial environments, hostile machines, vivid explosions, and an electronic soundtrack give Vyruz its distinctive action atmosphere. Rather than asking you to build an army or manage a complex economy, it concentrates on one armed vehicle pushing through an increasingly dangerous installation. Break through resistance, locate the next route, replenish your supplies, and keep moving toward the core. For players who enjoy classic overhead shooters and exploratory combat environments, it offers an arcade-style assault with enough resource pressure to make each advance matter.
